We were approached by Churcher’s College to assess their energy usage and to quote for solar to help offset their energy usage.
The college had already had some solar PV installed by another company some years ago and felt that it was time to re-look at how renewables could help offset their energy consumption. The building chosen for this array was the swimming pool centre.
The building has a standing seam roof, so before we could install solar PV on this surface a full structural survey was completed in conjunction with an external expert. As we were proposing utilising the maximum roof space available it was important to ensure the roof will safely take the additional weight.
Our in-house technical design team then designed a PV array using a specialist clamp for attaching solar PV solar this style of standing seam roof. We chose a JA Solar 415W module to complete the system. 356 solar panels were installed. These feed into 2 Solis 60kW inverters. These 3 phase inverters manage the solar PV and direct this to the meet demand from the building. These have the ability to manage different loads from each energy phase ensuring the the solar PV is used efficiently.
In addition to saving energy the solar PV system will also be used to teach students at the college about renewable energy.
